About Us
Our Story
Koho Travels was born from a simple frustration: the gap between what Sri Lanka actually offers and what most tour operators sell.
We started in 2018 as a team of three — all Sri Lankan, all obsessed with this island — designing trips for friends and their friends. No brochures, no fixed packages, no group tours. Just conversations, followed by carefully crafted journeys.
Today we're still a small team, and we intend to stay that way. Every trip that leaves our desk has been designed by someone who knows the country intimately — not assembled from a dropdown menu. We know which guide will make a temple visit unforgettable, which boutique hotel has the room with the best view, and which beach will be empty at 7am.
We work with travellers from the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, and Australia — people who value depth over checklists and prefer a conversation to a catalogue.
Our Impact
Tourism done well supports communities, protects wildlife, and preserves the places we all love to visit. Here's how we try to get it right.

Local Guides
Every guide we work with is Sri Lankan, locally trained, and paid a fair wage. Most have been with us since we started.
Community Projects
A portion of every booking supports education and healthcare projects in rural Sri Lanka. We visit them personally.
Eco-Accommodation
We only partner with properties that meet our sustainability criteria — solar power, waste management, local sourcing.
Wildlife Welfare
No elephant riding. No animal shows. Only ethical, observation-based wildlife encounters with qualified naturalists.
Carbon Offset
We offset the carbon footprint of all in-country transport through verified reforestation projects in the Sinharaja rainforest.
Plastic-Free Policy
Every traveller receives a reusable water bottle. We work with hotels to eliminate single-use plastics from our tours.
Press & Recognition
We're humbled to have been recognised by some of the world's leading travel publications.
